The current debate about migration is heated and, according to Professor Hein de Haas, filled with myths and misconceptions. With his recently published book, de Haas offers one of the few realistic and evidence-based accounts of migration. On the 22nd of April, my co-interviewer Nayantara Ranganatha had the chance to speak to the well-known migration scholar.

On our stage, de Haas responded to the most popular migration myths: Are we truly living in an era of mass migration? What are the reasons for migration and who really benefits economically from it? Why do current policies not work? Is the project to depoliticize migration at all feasible and desirable?

Listen to the interview now for his answers and a reflected debate about migration.
